Vincent Cheung propagates an idea I used years ago: Set a two-fold alarm to wake up: first light music and then, at the latest stage, a buzzer. Works really great, painless and reliable - IF YOU ARE SINGLE.
Otherwise, if you are sleeping with another person in the same room: Wake up no longer than 2 seconds after the first alarm tone and shut it off. Especially at 5am...
