Reading Michael Crichton's "State of fear" I found a rather remarkable snippet: "a world of Babbitry". Whoever cares - look here.
Not to mention that both books are worth reading, the former for its suspense, the latter for extending your literature library and common knowledge.
Here's another opinion on Crichton's book. Obviously there are ever so many ways to subtly influence people who don't cross-check. Still, even with science, to an ultimate extent factoid stands against factoid. What is truth? What is real?
