Preparations before updating interiorcad 2008

|

All interiorcad installers install interiorcad completely. There's no need to install a previous version first. It is strongly recommended to install it on top of a plain vanilla VectorWorks 2008 installation though

If you want to install an interiorcad 2008 update on top of an existing interiorcad 2008 installation, please do the following steps before running the installer:

  • Visit the VectorWorks 2008 installation folder
  • Locate and open the folder "Plug-Ins". Locate and remove the folder "xg". This will wipe out all interiorcad 2008 plug-ins. Do not simply rename this folder as VectorWorks 2008 will scan all plug-in folders recursively.
  • In the VectorWorks 2008 installation folder, remove the folder called "interiorcad". This will not affect any of your personal settings. It's simply a template folder.
  • In the VectorWorks 2008 installation folder, locate and open the folder "Templates". Remove the "interiorcad (Imperial).sta" resp. "interiorcad (Metric).sta" files.

You can now run the installer which will recreate the files and folders you just deleted. Due to files and settings in your user folder, you will still get dated template, workspace and interiorcad configuration files. If you want to benefit from all the fixes the update provides, do the following additional steps:

  • Visit the VectorWorks 2008 app data folder. The path differs depending on the platform:
    • Mac OS X: /Users/Your Username/Library/Application Support/VectorWorks/2008/
    • Windows Vista: C:\Users\Your Username\AppData\Roaming\Nemetschek\VectorWorks\2008\
    • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\YourUsername\AppData\Nemetschek\VectorWorks\2008\
  • To get the updated template files, backup the folder "Templates" and rename it as "Templates old"
  • To get the updated workspaces, backup the folder "Workspaces" and rename it as "Workspaces old"
  • To get the updated interiorcad database, backup the folder "xg" and rename it as "xg old"

Now start VectorWorks 2008. We hope you enjoy the interiorcad update!

User privileges on the Mac

|

To install and run interiorCAD successfully, a user needs administrator privileges and write access to the VectorWorks installation folder. In the system preferences, locate »Accounts« and ensure the option »Allow user to administer this computer« is enabled:

UserPrefs.png

Further ensure the current user is allowed to read and write to the VectorWorks application directory:

If the settings don't grant those rights, change it and press the button »Apply to enclosed items...«.

interiorCAD 3.0.2 and VW 12.5

|

interiorCAD 3.0.2 is not compatible with VW 12.5. In order to use in interiorCAD 3.0.2, you will need to keep a separate copy of VectorWorks 12.0.1.

We are already busy working on interiorCAD 3.5, which will be fully compatible with VectorWorks 12.5 (and take advantage of the features in VW 12.5).

Beta-Testing interiorCAD 3.5 will start soon, if you are interested in joining the beta program, please contact us at interiorcad@extragroup.de.

VectorWorks and anti virus software

|
As VectorWorks features networking capabilities, it scans the lokal network during startup for other computers running VectorWorks. If there is an anti virus software running, it can happen that it tries to disconnect your computer from the network without further notification. To stop this behaviour, setup your anti virus software to allow lokal network traffic on the port 6100.

Graphics cards for photorealistic rendering

|
For VectorWorks 12, we recommend to respect the following general recommendations:
  • At least 128MB of RAM (the more, the better) on the card
  • Install the latest driver - highly recommended!
  • For OpenGL-Rendering both the hardware as well as the driver need to support it. Ensure both also support Anti-Aliasing
  • Onboard-Cards are enough for office applications, but not for rendering threedimensional scenes

The following table provides an overview:

Series Windows Macintosh
NVIDIA Quadro FX 540, 1000, 1400, 3400/4400 Often have shown good performance and render results Not available
NVIDIA NVIDIA Geforce 6 und 7 Often have shown good performance Often have shown good performance
NVIDIA Other cards of the Geforce series (e.g. Geforce FX) Not recommended Not recommended
ATI FireGL V3100 Not recommended Not available
ATI Radeon series Not recommended Often have shown good performance

The ATI cards have shown shortcomings with anti-aliasing. On Macintosh-computers, it was OK when rendering a full scene on the screen, but not when printing, exporting (images or video) or rendering parts of the scene only. The cards of ATI don't seem to be targeted to design and CAD oriented markets, while the NVIDIA Quadro FX series seem to be.

Error messages when editing a unit

|

If there are messages like Error accessing file while editing a unit on a Macintosh computer, please try shortening the path to your VectorWorks installation. Placing the VectorWorks folder on your desktop usually isn't a good idea. While editing a unit it now tries to read files placed in

/Users/Yourusername/Desktop/VectorWorks 12.0.1/Plug-Ins/XG Resources/

which simply is to long. Move the VectorWorks directory to the root of your hard drive or into the applications folder instead and it will work properly. Now create an alias to your VectorWorks executable on the desktop.

VectorWorks and Intel-Macs

|

Nemetschek North America recommends not to use VectorWorks up to version 12.0.1 on Intel Macs. IntelMacs will be supported in later versions.

Running VW 12.0.x on an Intel based Macintosh machine can lead to slow performance, unexpected drawing results and even crashes.

VectorWorks 12 system recommendation

|

Nemetschek North America clearly states that more RAM than 1GB drastically increases the smoothness of VectorWorks 12. This is valid for Windows driven machines as well as for Macintosh machines.

Users will feel very comfortable with 2GB of RAM. The performance boost can be seen during application startup, zooming, panning and - of course - rendering.

The minimal system requirements are as follows:

  • Macintosh:
    • Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later
    • QuickTime 6 or later
    • PowerPC G3 or later
    • 512 MB RAM, better 1024 MB
  • Windows:
    • Windows 2000 SP4 or better, Windows XP
    • QuickTime 6.5.1 up to 7.0.2
    • Pentium or better
    • 512 MB RAM, better 1024 MB

interiorCAD 2.0 supports VectorWorks 12

|

We've done some testing and we're confident that interiorCAD 2.0 works just well with VectorWorks 12.

We have provided an updated installer of interiorCAD 2.0 supporting VectorWorks 12 for demo and full version users.

Please contact tech-support if you lost your username/password for our download site.

VectorWorks 11.5 compatibility

|

We will release a VectorWorks 11.5 compatible version of interiorCAD within the next few days. This version will work on VectorWorks 11.5 only.

If you are interested in beta-testing upcoming versions of interiorCAD, please let us know.

VectorWorks not starting on Win XP SP2

|

In case that VectorWorks will not start up on Windows after installing SP2, the first step in resolving this behaviour should be to update the driver for the graphics card to the latest available version.

In most cases, this will make VectorWorks start again.
