interiorcad 2008 manual

|

We are pleased to announce the International English version of the interiorcad 2008 manual. It covers all aspects of interiorcad and should give you a better clue how to get more out of interiorcad to support your business.

The manual is available in PDF format via the main interiorcad documentation page. The interiorcad installer has placed a link to this page on your desktop. If you deleted this link, you can find it in the folder VWHelp of your VectorWorks interiorcad installation.

Any comments or feedback are much appreciated.

Edge mappings in interiorcad 2008

|

Edge mapping is an important issue in interiorcad, at least if it is used in a complete CAD/CAM environment. Sheet saws and CNC machinings require that interiorcad does some recalulations of part sizes and routing positions depending on the thickness of edge bandings.

For the user this requires to know how edgings are named resp. numbered in interiorcad 2008. The screenshot should give you an idea about the mysterious edge numers, 1 trough 4:

Any part of the unit editor has a default grain direction which is derived from classical construction principles. The grain of unit sides usually points to a vertical direction as well as for doors and partitions. The grain of drawer fronts, plinths and shelves usually points to a horizontal direction.

Edge bandings number 1 and 2 are always the edge bandings along the grain direction. Edge bandings number 3 and 4 are always the edge banding perpendicular to the grain direction.

Edge 1 therefore usually is the "main" edging. On doors, it's the hinged edge. On unit sides, partitions, shelves and stretchers it usually is the front edge. For drawer box sides, backs and fronts it is the top edge. Edging 2 simply is the opposite side.

Edgings 3 and 4 are then considered being perpendicular, usually seen from top to bottom or left to right respectively.

All this is important to understand which edging is on the machine stops in the part layout respectively on the machine table. Without this mapping, interiorcad could never do a proper formatting and routing.
