If you're putting demo software out on the intarweb and you want people to download it, then do not, and I'm serious here, do not ask for every single detail about the person's life before you let them download the trial version of your application....
Hmm. At least I'm brave enough to link to this substantial rambling about gathering customer data via a company's website. Of course, we ask customers downloading our demo version for personal information, too. But I understand Rory's point. Let me think about it for a while.
